October & November Update

Almost two months since my last update...  So what have we been up to?

Eli's Grandpa and Grandma came for a visit.  We had a good week - it was great to see family after such a long time!  We did a lot of sight-seeing, visiting museums, historic sites, etc.  By the end of the week, Eli was fine staying with Grandma and Grandpa while we got to go out by ourselves for the first time in many months!  Eli loved it too; he's still playing games they taught him.

Eli's school had a Halloween party.  Anne went all out on his costume, and the kids loved the healthy treats she made.  While Halloween isn't nearly as big as it is in the US, it's catching on.

Kids can be a lot like puppies - Eli was chasing his tail in circles when we took this shot!

We took Eli to see a cyclocross race they setup right in the center of Stockholm.  (A recreational race, not a pro race).  But our kid loves bikes and anything that goes fast, so he had a good time.

Another Saturday we took a bus trip out to a castle where there was a christmas market.  We bought some Glogg (mulled wine), Svagdricka (a historic weak beer), Enbarmust (juniper soda), and ostrich sausage, some Christmas decorations, and got a ton of free samples.

Eli had a good nap during the trip

...still napping...

Along with talking a lot, Eli is always surprising us.  He knows most letters and numbers.  One of his favorite activities now is to type in MicroSoft Word; we tell him to find letters or numbers, and he quickly finds them on the keyboard and types.  Or he'll hit letters or numbers and tell us what it is.  He also knows how to spell his name and the word box (thanks to his favorite episode of Word World).

What else...   We've been keeping up on our home brewing.  As of this writing, there are two different batches of Christmas beers fermenting.   The previous three batches were a hit at our Thanksgiving dinner (which was Saturday, since everyone (except Kevin) was working on Thursday).

Kevin is getting ready to start his on-line MBA program through Isenberg School of Business at UMass Amherst.  My original plan was to have started earlier in the fall.  But the summer was consumed by taking care of Eli, searching for apartments, and moving among apartments, so that got delayed.  But it worked out - by the time I finally took the GMAT I scored in the 96th percentile, and I got into a very highly-ranked program.

The next month will be very busy for us.  First, Kevin's Mom is coming to visit for a little over a week.  The following Tuesday is St. Lucia day, and Eli will be dressing up for the party at his school (we also get to spend that day at his school).  The day after that, we leave for Belgium for a vacation, where we'll be stopping at a lot of breweries and other sites.  The day we return from Belgium, Kevin starts classes.

Anyway, we'll try to keep up this blog a little more frequently.  We'll try to write when we get back from Belgium.  But no promises ;)

We hope everyone is doing well.  Happy belated Halloween and Thanksgiving.  And in case it takes me too long to write the next blog post, I'd better say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year now!
